The honest size guide
Jackets & mids+
Size for the layer under it, not the beach body. If you ski tour, take your normal size — the cut already allows a mid-layer. Between sizes? Go up; wind doesn't care about slim fit.
Boots+
Half a size up from your street shoe, measured in the afternoon, with the socks you'll actually wear. Toes should graze the front only when you kick downhill.
Packs & harnesses+
Packs size by back length, not height — measure C7 vertebra to iliac crest. Harnesses: snug over one layer with two fingers of clearance under the waist belt.
